Dr Shields is recognized on “Top Doctors” lists and is known by many of his colleagues as a “doctor’s doctor”. Because of his expertise in gastroenterology, Dr Shields often is invited to lecture to other groups of physicians, and has given Medical Grand Rounds at Stanford, Sequoia, Kaiser, and Mills hospitals. Before opening his private practice office he served as the Director of Endoscopy at Stanford University Medical Center. He continues to enjoy actively teaching at Stanford and has been recognized with an “Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award”.
